I have gotten a quote for a B2710 with a 60 FEL and fold down ROPS and R4 tires for $16,000.00 plus tax.
I have spoken to the john Deere dealer on the 4200 and the closet with the same equipment is $18800.00.
I still can not figure out why they are so much more money when they are practically the same tractors except for the name and the colors.
Which would you buy and why?

Have you tried either of these models out. When I test drove them both and the HST drive on the John Deere required a lot of pressure. After a short time my leg was feeling the burn. The B2710 HST drive required very little pressure.

I would suggest that you request a home trial. My local Kubota Tractor Dealer will bring the unit to your house and let you give a whirl. I know that spending over $15,000 requires a lot of forethought and since this tractor will be with you for many years, I suggest you take them for a test drive. ....

A couple of random thoughts: I tend to classify tractors by weight and if memory serves the 4200 is a good bit heavier than the Kubota. That's good for traction, like when pulling a box scraper, but may not be the best thing for mowing, especially if you are mowing over a septic system.
Also, if you go back over some of the history on this site, I think you will find more quality and maintenence problems noted with the Deere 4000 series(excluding the 4100) than you will find with any model Kubota. My impression is that the average Deere owner has had at least one warrenty problem with his machine and the average Kubota owner is real happy and does not have to go back to the dealer except for routine maintenence. Even the new 4210's have some sort of problem with the steering wheel locking up. Hope this helps. Mark ....

Why you ask the price difference of 2800?????? BECAUSE ITS A JOHN DEERE AND ITs NOT MADE BY JOHN DEERE, ITS MADE BY YANMAR OR SOME OTHER JAP MAnufacturer. JOHN DEERE THINKS PEOPLE ARE STUPID ENOUGH TO PAY 2800 MORE BECAUSE IT IS GREEN AND NOT CHECK OUT OTHER BRANDS. BUY THE KUBOTA. ....

WHOA THERE JEFF!

The 4200 does have a Yanmar engine, however it is manufactured in Augusta, Ga.

F.Y.I.

I am Deere Dealer, and have a couple Kubota's on my lot that were traded by disatisfied owners.

I will commend you on your brand name loyalty, but as I reflect on the past history of the tractors I have sold, we have had very few problems. I will admit I read alot of problems on here and here them on the street with the deere's, but, we ain't seein' much poblems in our area.

To say we have done zero warrenty work would be inaccurate, but, the orange guy down the street, who is also a repuatable dealer, and a fellow alumn of my high school who I see on a daily basis (small town), has about the same warrenty/sales rate as we do.

Yes, he is usually cheaper on sales prices, however, his service dept. usually makes that up on oil changes and other non warrenty service.

Just like you, I calls 'em likes I sees 'um. ....

Brand Loyality???? ME?????? NEVER.
I have owned 2 Fords, 1 John Deere, and now a Kubota. I am a dealers' nightmare. I have no need for a dealer's service department, since I can handle any sevice problem the dealer can. When I get done looking at ALL comepeting make and model specifications I will know more than the dealer. The thing I learned about John Deere pricing was that it was HEADS and tails above competing makes and models. The prevailing attitude at 7 JD dealers in Southeast Michigan is typically "IT'S GREEN, ITS EXPENSIVE AND JUST GIMME YOUR MONEY BECAUSE JD KNOWS MORE ABOUT TRACTORS THAN ANYBODY AND YOU ARE STUPID TO LOOK AT ANY OTHER BRAND". And that was if you could get him out of his office to talk to you. Out of the 7 JD dealers I went to, NOT ONE LEFT THE BUILDING TO APPROACH ME WHEN I WAS LOOKING AT HIS NEW TRACTORS. LOL. One dealer I visited at 10 minutes past his 5 o'clock closing time even locked the door with me sitting on a tractor outside. You would think when a guy drives into your parking lot in a fancy pick-up truck it would imply he has MONEY TO SPEND?? DUH?? I guess with people paying those high DEERE prices he doesn't have to be too customer friendly because I had to go and beg for a owner or salesman. The other 12 brands/dealers had a saleman or owner leaving the comfort of building in a maximium of 7 minutes. It's like A JD dealers exists in a world of his own. I got the sneaky feeling that JD dealers are "order takers" and rely way too much on the reputation of JD. NOT ONE JD owner or salesman was what I consider to be a "SHARP AND PERSONABLE SALESMAN IN GENERAL SALES KNOWLEDGE OR KNOWLEDGE OF SPECS OF COMPETING BRANDS" Being a previous manufacturer's rep for some major consumer electronic firms I was amazed at the attitude of the "Green" dealers. DO JD dealer's really pay 400 bucks a month to Deere for the sign out front????? I could get rich if I offered a sales training course for these knuckleheads. I wonder if JOHN DEERE CORPORATE IS LISTENING TO THESE POSTS ON THE ATTITUDE OF THEIR DEALER BASE IN SOUTH EAST MICHIGAN??? ....

I have heard some real horror stories on how some tractor dealers have treated their customers. I guess I've been lucky here in Texas. I have kept the road hot the past 2 weeks doing some serious tractor shopping and have been treated great. After making the rounds to NH Kubota, Kioto this week, I was 90% sold on a "bota but stopped at the local JD dealer to give him a shot. This guy spent a good hour with me in the Houston August sun, giving me an honest comparison to the Kubota. He gave me his Master key and told me to drive any or all I wanted to. When I was finished he wrote me a quote that...get this.... beat the Kubota price by about $100. Ive been impressed with all our dealers, but "Mr Greenjeans" tops the list. ....
